How to Apply for Shanghai Jiao Tong University Scholarships
Eligible applicants who would like to apply for these university scholarship to study in China must follow the steps below to submit their applications.
Step 1: Complete the Online Application
Complete and submit an online application through isc.sjtu.edu.cn/ by the application deadline. If you wish to apply for the scholarship at the same time, please complete the application before the scholarship deadline.
Step 2: Pay the Application Fee
The application fee is RMB 800 (approx. USD 120), non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment must be made using RMB or USD and applicants can choose online payment or bank transfer in the online application system. Not all universities required application fee for the Chinese Government Scholarships. For more details, please check the list of Chinese Universities with and without Application Fees.
For the Chinese Government Scholarship, applications must be made at both at China Scholarship Council () and apply.sjtu.edu.cn. For more details, please check out the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Steps. Applicants are also encouraged to apply for the CSC scholarship through the Chinese Embassies or relevant organizations in their home country (deadline varies from country to country). Please consult the relevant Chinese Embassy/Consulate about its application schedule, eligibility, requirements, procedures, documents, agency number, program category type and so on.
For Shanghai Government Scholarship, applications must click here to follow instructions and apply both for the Study in Shanghai and Study at SJTU.
Note : Applicants may choose only one application channel. Replicated applications through more than one channel are not allowed.
Required Documents
- Degree certificates: must be the scanned file of your original certificates. Students who have not graduated by the time of application are required to provide an official letter from their current university stating the expected graduation date.
- Transcripts: It must be a scanned copy of your original transcripts. Master’s program applicants are required to submit undergraduate transcripts. Doctoral program applicants are required to submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

- A scanned copy of your passport.
- Passport-size photo.
- Personal statement and study plan.
- Two letters of academic recommendation from scholars who are associate professors or above, or senior professionals in a related academic field. Please follow the instructions on the online system for submission of online recommendation letters or upload the recommendation letters with original signatures.
- If you are applying for programs of the School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology or School of Mechanical Engineering, you are required to contact the supervisor beforehand and provide an acceptance letter by the supervisor.
